3 Things to Take into 2014

As this year is coming to a close I found myself struggling to recap accomplishments for 2013.  What was hindering this process is that I was being too hard on myself.  I think the main thing that I was not happy about is my progress towards minimizing my debt.  It is my goal to live a debt free life as much as I can.  I mainly want to get rid of my student loan debt which is in the low six figures.  Yes you read that correctly.   I have three degrees to show for it, but yeah that debt has to go away sooner than later.  Don’t get me wrong I have made some headway, but I do have a lot more to chip at.  I’m so glad a good friend reminded me that I must enjoy the process as we are always going a million miles per hour to get to the next step.

2013 was definitely a year that had me enjoy the process of spiritual growth and coming into my passion for teaching.  I was also captivated by Diana Nyad’s completion of a record breaking swim from Cuba to Florida on September 2, 2013.  Immediately following her record breaking swim she gave out three messages that stuck with me, “1 is we should never give up, 2 is [we are] never too old to chase dreams, 3 is never a solitary sport it’s a team.”  From that alone and her record breaking swim, Diana has inspired three things I want to carry into 2014.

1) Be fearless.  You have to take calculated risks in order to get maximum return for you goals that you set forth to accomplish.  Taking the first step is always that hardest part, but once you do that you can gain momentum.

2) Make no excuses just get it done.  If it is important to you then you will find a way to get it done.

3) Be willing to engage in teamwork.  Diana Nyad made it very clear that she would not have been able to complete that record breaking swim without have a great team in place.  Teaming up with individuals that are in alignment with the same goals is critical to success.  You need individuals on your team that will provide encouragement at times and serve as a support system.  I talk more about the importance of having and building a team in my post Recognize and Build Your Support Team.

I just want to thank you for reading The Cube Life Chronicles.  I hope that my posts have been able to be helpful at some capacity.  I am excited about what 2014 has to offer.  Oh and yes that is Charlie Brown and the gang at the top.  I love watching the holiday specials every year.

What things are you taking into 2014?  Please share them with me!

Being fearless is definitely at the top of my list! Additionally, remembering to ENJOY the journey is also of great importance.

As one person I know put it “if you survived 2013, you will thrive in 2014.” Every struggle and challenge of 2013 has truly prepared you to thrive in 2014! Your blog will grow, your students will excel and you will see financial increase simply because of your faith, trust in God and your diligence.

I’m believing for 2014 to be a great year for you!

Erika!!!!!!! I want you to understand how much you just made my day. I fully agree with the quote, “If you survived 2013, you will thrive in 2014.” Thank you for believing in me and pouring that positive energy over me and my year to come. I’m claiming it. Let’s hold each other accountable to live fearless this year. When fear starts to rise just take a step forward instead.
